Mayor of Great Kei Municipality Leads Handover of Production Inputs to Local Cooperatives
On Friday, 27 February 2026, the Mayor of Great Kei Municipality, Councillor N.W. Tekile, led a formal handover session of production inputs at the Qumrha Town Hall under the Municipality’s Cooperative Support Programme.
The session was attended by Councillor Z. Patuluko, Councillor Z. Tshali, Councillor H. Pakamile, and the Secretary of Great Kei Business Forum alongside community members and representatives of the beneficiary cooperatives. The Mayor officially conducted the proceedings and handed over the production inputs to the identified cooperatives.
In his address, Mayor Tekile emphasised the importance of utilising the provided resources effectively and responsibly. He encouraged the cooperatives to treat the support as a catalyst for sustainable business growth and economic empowerment. Referring particularly to the grass-cutting project, the Mayor urged beneficiaries not to undermine the opportunity afforded to them, but rather to use it to strengthen and expand their enterprises for long-term benefit.
Through the Cooperative Support Programme, three cooperatives were selected to receive support:
•Siyenza Primary Cooperative, implementing a grass-cutting project in Icwili, Ward 5;
•Dadel’enzulwini Primary Agricultural Cooperative, focusing on vegetable production in Palana, Ward 1; and
•For You and For Me Primary Agricultural Cooperative, specialising in broiler production in Mangqukela, Ward 4.
The initiative forms part of the Municipality’s broader commitment to advancing local economic development, empowering community-based enterprises, and promoting sustainable livelihoods throughout the Great Kei area
