About Great Kei Municipality
Great Kei Municipality is a coastal jewel of the Eastern Cape, comprising five uniquely charming towns — Qumrha (Komga), Kei Mouth, Morgan’s Bay, Haga Haga, Chintsa East and Chintsa West. Together, these towns form a diverse landscape of coastal beauty, rural heritage, and vibrant community life, making Great Kei one of the province’s most treasured destinations to live in and visit.

Gxarha (Morgan’s Bay) welcomes visitors with its towering cliffs, golden beaches and peaceful lagoon. Its natural beauty and dramatic scenery make it a favourite for photographers, hikers, and holidaymakers seeking tranquillity by the sea.

Kei Mouth stands proudly as the home of the historic Kei River Pont Ferry, South Africa’s last remaining car-carrying pont. This iconic attraction serves as the gateway to the world-famous Wild Coast and draws adventure seekers, travellers and nature lovers throughout the year.

Haga Haga offers a serene coastal village atmosphere, known for its family-friendly environment, rock pools, safe swimming beaches, and breathtaking ocean views. It remains a haven for rest, relaxation and slow coastal living.

Chintsa East is a vibrant tourism hub boasting long, unspoiled beaches, popular eco-resorts, restaurants, and a variety of ocean-based activities.
Chintsa West, with its panoramic sea views, nature trails and quiet neighbourhood appeal, provides easy access to both the coastline and the broader Great Kei tourism corridor.

The Great Kei River Estuary is a paradise for boating, fishing and birdwatching enthusiasts. Its pristine waters and surrounding vegetation support a rich variety of birdlife and offer some of the best estuarine adventures in the region.
Beyond the coastline, Great Kei’s rural and farming areas — including Qumrha and surrounding villages — celebrate authentic Xhosa cultural heritage. Visitors can enjoy traditional storytelling, cultural tours, historical sites, and everyday rural life that reflects the deep history and identity of our communities.

Great Kei Municipality proudly offers a harmonious blend of tourism, culture and natural beauty — a place where residents thrive and visitors return, year after year.
