Ward 7 Reconstruction of Coloured–Siviwe Internal Streets – Phase 1 project, a major infrastructure development initiative by Great Kei Local Municipality.


Today the residents of Ward 7 gathered at Happy Valley Community Hall for the official introduction and handover of the contractor appointed to implement the Reconstruction of Coloured–Siviwe Internal Streets – Phase 1 project, a major infrastructure development initiative by Great Kei Local Municipality.

The event was led by the Mayor, Hon Cllr N.W. Tekile, who officially introduced Jojocorn Projects as the appointed contractor responsible for the implementation of the project and Usiba Lwe Africa Consulting Engineers. Community members, Ward Councillors, municipal officials, and stakeholders attended the gathering to witness the commencement of a project that is expected to significantly improve road infrastructure and living conditions within the area.

The project, which is a Disaster funded project is funded through the Municipal Disaster Recovery Grant(MDRG) is:
💵 valued at R 7 980 490 million
🚧scheduled to commence on 25 May 2026 and is expected to be completed on 25 October 2026, with an implementation period of five months.

✅CLO: R5000 CLOs will be appointed via a recruitment process.
✅ due to the project being labour intensive it’s estimated that the majority of employees will be males (9) and females (3)

Speaking during the handover, the Mayor highlighted that the project forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to improving service delivery and investing in sustainable infrastructure that responds to the needs of local communities. He emphasized that the reconstruction of internal streets will not only improve accessibility and mobility for residents, but will also contribute towards safer and cleaner neighbourhoods.

The scope of the project includes the upgrading of 1,5 kilometres of gravel roads into reinforced concrete 30MPA roads with concrete V-drains, construction of concrete internal streets over a total distance of 1,5 kilometres, preparation and improvement of the existing roadbed and subgrade, as well as the provision of storm water drainage infrastructure.

Additional work will include the design and construction of property access crossings and driveways, implementation of road safety and traffic calming measures, and careful construction staging to ensure that residents continue to have access to their homes throughout the construction period.

Community members welcomed the development and expressed appreciation for the municipality’s continued efforts to improve infrastructure within Ward 7. The municipality further encouraged residents to cooperate with the contractor during the construction phase and to protect the infrastructure once completed.

The Reconstruction of Coloured–Siviwe Internal Streets – Phase 1 project is expected to enhance road safety, improve storm water management, and contribute positively towards the overall socio-economic development of the community.
