Yesterday the Hon Mayor of Great Kei Municipality, Cllr NW Tekile was in ward 6 where he tabled the 2024\/25 IDP Review and 2023\/24 Draft Annual Report. (16 April 2024)<\/div>\n

As part of the IDP Process plan, the municipality is mandated to consult communities through a public participation process, so that communities may get an opportunity to input into the final IDP.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
He gave a report on what had been achieved, projects which have been implemented, those currently being implemented and those in\u00a0the pipeline, namely:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\"\u2705\"SANRAL – R63 Project value for is R 983m for 33 months.<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"N2 Qumrha T-Junction to Mooiplaas \u2013Kei Mouth Intersection Project value is R 182m<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"The Office Of The Premier, through the Small Towns Revitalization Programme has invested R60 Million towards service delivery projects, namely road surfacing in Kei Mouth and Chintsa<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"Kei Mouth Ferry, Consultant has been appointed, Kei Mouth Ferry is budgeted for R 12,5m. Preliminary Design Reports have been completed and approved by Dept of Transport<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"Haga-Haga R349 Surfacing is budgeted for R115,4m and Consultant has been appointed. Prelimanary Design Reports have been completed to be presented to Dept of Transport<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"An amount of R17 000 000.00 has been budgeted for disaster projects for 2024\/25<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"An amount of R16 790 000.00 has been budgeted for electrification rollout in 2024\/25<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"For the 2024\/25 Financial year ADM has budgeted R57 326 804.00 as part of repairing and upgrading the water infrastructure.<\/div>\n
\"\u2705\"ADM WSIG (Water Services Infratsructure Grant) has budgeted an amount of R14 484 000.00 which will be used for the Chintsa Dam, refurbishment of Great Kei water reticulation.<\/div>\n

\n
Working together with the Dept of Transport, the following has been achieved:<\/div>\n
\"\u26a0\ufe0f\"108 EPWP\u2019s which have been placed at a cost of R2 119 248.00<\/div>\n
\"\u26a0\ufe0f\"In 2024, 322 children throughout GKM will benefit in Scholar transport, which is budgeted for at a cost of R2 031 856.20<\/div>\n
\"\u26a0\ufe0f\"An amount of R6 000 000.00 is budgeted for Roads maintenance ( this is mainly for re gravelling )<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Following have been identified as the top 10 Community Priority needs:<\/div>\n
1.Proper Sanitation in Qumrha<\/div>\n
2.Water Challenges in the entire GKM<\/div>\n
3.Rural Housing Development<\/div>\n
4.Visible Policing<\/div>\n
5.Additional Land for Settlement and Communal Farming<\/div>\n
6.High Mast Lights in all Wards due to high crime levels<\/div>\n
7.Internal Streets in all Wards<\/div>\n
8.Youth Development Programs<\/div>\n
9.Job Creation<\/div>\n
10.Access to other government services such as Home Affairs, Sassa and Social Development, Health Services<\/div>\n

Regardless of the challenges that the municipality faces, we have continued to work together and are proud of these achievements:<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"Unqualified Audit Opinion for three consecutive financial years<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"Funded Budget for 3 consecutive years<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"Zero irregular expenditure incurred in the past 4 financial years<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"No bank overdraft applications in 3 consecutive years<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"567 jobs created through Community Works Programme (CWP)<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"165 jobs created through the Dept of Forestry and Fisheries<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"53 Jobs created through Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)<\/div>\n
\"\u2757\ufe0f\"Reduction in creditors book from R15.9 million in 2022 to R12.3 million in the 2023 audited financial statements<\/div>\n

The Municipal Manager, Mr L Mambila introduced 16 recently employed Token Identifier Inspectors who will be doing door to door visits as part of rolling out the smart meter boxes.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
