Great Kei Ward Delimitation process with MDB

The Municipal Demarcation Board Public Consultation on the Ward Delimitation took place on Thursday 13 February 2020. Honourable Mayor of GKM Cllr NW Tekile, officially opened the meeting where councillors and the Municipal Manager were part of the proceedings. The MBD was represented represented by Ms Ayanda Monkhe and Mr Fazel Hoosen.
Every five years, the MDB delimits wards in metropolitan and local municipalities ahead of the local government elections (LGE). The MDB and the municipality have the joint responsibility of telling the people how the process works. The presentation which was done explained the following:

  • MDB Process (Norm, Minimum and Maximum)
  • Existing Wards
  • Proposed Ward delimitation
  • Proposed ward changes

Ms Monkhe presented the proposed changes and there were discussions and deliberations from community members in attendance. Some changes were opposed, others were amended, and others were welcomed. People objecting changes were requested to fill in the forms. The Municipal Manager pledged to help assist this process by having the public participation unit assist all those people interested in filling in the forms.

Once the ward delimitation process is concluded, the wards will be handed to the IEC to prepare for the Local Government Elections.
