MEDIA RELEASE – MARINE WEEK
Marine Week to be hosted at Great Kei Municipality
On the 10th November 2017 Great Kei Local Municipality in partnership with Amathole District Municipality will host a marine day. This day originated in South Africa in 1988, with an aim to focus public attention on the marine environment and the importance of the oceans to life on earth. The Amathole District Municipality has been celebrating marine week in the previous years through involving schools and communities through education and direct participation and involvement in the marine related activities.
The following are the OBJECTIVES
To give human face to Marine environmental issues
To create awareness on the marine environment, promotion of sustainable use and conservation of the natural resources for the benefit of both present and future generations.
To create awareness on the school kids to become coastal management ambassadors in their local communities
To show case the careers within marine environment for the benefit of school kids
The Mayors of ADM and Great Kei will both be in attendance. The event will be held as follows:
